Metroid Ecliption Early Beta Vid

Metroid Ecliption 0 Comment »

I would like to take this time to introduce everyone to the Heliac Studio YouTube channel. This is where all game creation videos will be posted. What is Heliac Studio, you ask? Stay tuned, and you shall soon find out.

This is an early beta video. I have taken the demo offline, and I am currently reworking it to add several things:

First off, a better level layout, with a few extra rooms and more easily noticeable trap walls and bomb floors.

Second off, better enemy placement. A big complaint I got about the original demo was that enemies would knock you back through the door you just exited.

Third – and this is a big one – I am adding pickups in the demo for health. This was another issue that plagued the first release. I will also be adding a die screen, one that will NOT restart the game, but it will however place you in one of two areas to continue playing, either the crashed ship site, or the bottom of the fall pit, depending on how far you got in game.

Last but not least, I will be adding a miniboss intro scene at the end, when you go through the door unlocked by the energy cells you acquire. This will not actually lead into a fight, however it will be a nice ending to the beta demo.

These changes and glitch fixes, however minimal, should make the experience of playing this demo a lot more enjoyable.

Please keep in mind, this demo is does not reflect the plans for the final outcome of the game, as the current engine is much different from the one presented in this beta. The plot and setting is also currently under a reworking.

I will post the revised beta demo as soon as it is finished being reworked.

Other M? Wtf?

Metroid 2 Comments »

Watch the E3 2009 trailer:

What do you guys think?

Okay. So the name .. I get the reference. For those of you who do not:

So there you have it. The ending of the original Metroid. The “Other M” .. -etroid.

Honestly Nintendo, what has gotten into you? Team Ninja? Are you kidding me?

I get that it is still in development. I get that the graphics may become more polished. But it looks like another CG cartoon style Japanese game. They might as well have called this “Metroid: Final Fantasy”. And with a release date of some time in 2010, they do have a lot of time to polish this thing up, or a lot of time to make it even worse.

So I understand that a lot of people wanted a 3rd person Metroid game. Its a neat idea, given the fact that Metroid started out as a two dimensional side scroller. Does creating a three dimensional, third person game retain the same feeling as the original platformers? I think not. That is just my opinion though. I mean, this may shape up to be a great game. But from the looks of it, and after watching it about thirty times, I can honestly say I am disappointed. This is really not the direction I wanted to see my favorite video game series take.

But that is just my stupid opinion. Tell me what you guys think.
